Bart Legal Department

Prior to joining Assurant, Bart was Director of Corporate Governance and Secretary of the Bank of New York Mellon, where he played a significant role in legal and governance matters related to the merger of the New York bank with Mellon Financial Corporation. Previously, he served as Assistant General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of MONY Group (the name after the demutualization of the former Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York) and Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Willis (now Willis Towers Watson). In addition to acting as senior legal counsel to the boards and officers of large publicly traded companies, he has led the defense and resolution of significant litigation related to complex insurance matters, securities class actions and derivatives lawsuits for shareholders. He has sued companies in proceedings before the insurance departments of the states, the United States. Securities and Exchange Commission and the United States.
