Applications for our 2023 internship will be accepted in December 2022. The duration of the internship is from a period of one to six months (renewable from an additional six months up to a total of twelve months) to full-time (40 hours/week). The OECD encourages potential interns to stay for six months to get the best possible insight into their work at the OECD. A cost-of-living contribution of around €700 per full month of work is granted to trainees by the OECD. Objective The Permanent Bureau of the HCCH is looking for legal trainees to assist HCCH staff in carrying out their tasks and in their daily work. It is also an opportunity for students who, as part of their studies or PhD, wish to gain practical experience in pedagogical work, deepen their knowledge of private international law and understand the functioning of the HCCH. The internship offer requires that you be able to meet the eligibility criteria to work in the relevant country in accordance with applicable immigration regulations. Note to applicants: Due to the high number of applications received, the OECD Internship Office is unable to provide individual feedback. Therefore, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by management for an interview. If you are not contacted by the management recruitment teams within three months of submitting your application, you can assume that your application was not considered on this occasion and you can apply again on the dates indicated above. Remember that you must always be registered as a student during the internship. The internship program is announced in early January, May and September. Details of specific internship opportunities can be found in the Office of Legal Affairs internship offers posted on the UN careers website under careers.un.org.

We offer two articling periods for law students, preferably in the penultimate year of study. Both periods are between May and July or December. Internships are usually three weeks in length. The application deadline for legal internships of three to six months at the Permanent Office in The Hague is now open for the period from January to June 2023. Applications will be accepted until Friday 23 September 2022, 18:00 (CEST). (The application deadline for internships from July 2023 will open in due course.) Candidates can complete internships for any period between three weeks and six months, in person or online. Candidates must be able to work in English. Currently, there is no financial support and applicants are responsible for covering all costs related to the internship. Make improvements – Your feedback is important to us to improve the program each year. Who better to ask for feedback than those who complete the program. Each year, at the end of the program, we hold an internal group session and have an interactive and open discussion about what worked and what may not have worked so well. All information about our summer internship program can be found in our brochure, please click here.
