Legal Aid Board Traineeship

The Client Selection Unit is the one-stop shop for applicants seeking our legal advice. Staff select candidates to determine their suitability, triage legal issues, and determine the appropriate level of service for clients, including referral, advice, or connecting clients with Chicago Legal Aid practice groups for more comprehensive analysis and representation. The Immigrant and Workers` Rights Practice Group is a multidisciplinary team focused on employment, immigration, migrant workers` rights and human trafficking. The team serves migrant and agricultural workers by dealing with housing, health and safety, immigration and human trafficking applications, wage theft and other illegal acts related to their work. The Trafficking Survivors Assistance Program (TSAP) provides comprehensive services to survivors of trafficking, including immigration, victim representation before law enforcement agencies, and civil litigation for survivors. Our immigration team specializes in representing victims of non-citizenship crimes who apply for special humanitarian visas and a variety of other migration-related applications. The practice group`s employment law team represents individuals in labor disputes, wage theft, claims under the Family Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and advocates discrimination in the workplace in all its forms through administrative and judicial proceedings. We are looking for an internship with employment law commitments for our established network, which works primarily from our Aberdeen office. You have a degree and diploma in legal practice and are able to obtain a certificate of admission from the Law Society of Scotland. You also have a complete and clean driver`s license and the ambition to become a forensic practitioner with excellent technical skills and the ability to focus those where you can make the biggest difference. You need to be well organized and have strong interpersonal skills. You will be supported by your supervisor and other experienced colleagues to manage a demanding workload, publicly funded child protection (child hearings; adoption and duration; Article 11 Interventions with the intervention of a social worker), housing law (repossession; Homeless; Rot; illegal eviction) and some debts, mental health and social benefits work.

This orientation will give the incumbent the opportunity to do valuable and rewarding work. Sometimes this can mean dealing with cases involving desperate and sometimes traumatized people who are looking for legal solutions to resolve stressful life situations. This requires a calm and resilient temperament and the ability to focus on finding legal solutions that can really make a difference.
