Each course has formal assessments that count towards your grade. Some courses may also include « practical assessments » that help you track your progress and do not count towards your final grade. The results of the national student survey reflect the innovation and commitment of our teaching team. Our pastoral care system is carefully designed. Each student has his or her own tutor. Before you arrive at the university, you will be assigned a tutor with whom you will remain in close contact, especially during the first weeks of the semester. As part of our Law Parent program, each first-year law student is also assigned a peer mentor who is a second- or third-year law student. Law graduates tend to go into the legal industry, and they usually take similar paths. The jobs are competitive – often very competitive – but starting salaries are good and high-flying people can make a lot of money – starting with more than £24,000 in London on average. Be aware, however, that some careers, especially as a lawyer, can take a while, and the industry evolves as the internet, automation, and economic changes all have an impact. If you want to qualify to practice law, you need to get a professional qualification – many law graduates go on to law school. If you want to work, many law graduates take internships or paralegal roles and some leave law altogether, often for jobs in management, finance, and policing.
A small proportion of law graduates also move on to another subject in order to continue their studies. Management, accounting, and teaching are all popular for these career changers, so if you go to law school and decide it`s not for you, there are options. The school has a tradition of extracurricular activities, including a student-run bar. LLB students can apply to our client meeting or advocacy team to deepen their skills and experience. Advocacy is the reasoning of a hypothetical case before the courts. Our LLB law students were finalists in the 2014-15 OUP and BPP National Moot Court Competition. After successfully completing the IYZ, you will continue the first year of your studies directly to the university of your choice. International Year Zero is the first year of the four-year undergraduate course.
IYZ is designed to help you gain additional skills in your area of expertise as well as the English language before moving on to the first year of your chosen bachelor`s program. This is an eligible legal degree recognized by the Law Society Standards Council. This program also scored 97% and 96% for overall satisfaction in the 2014 and 2015 national student surveys. GCSE English (language or literature) AND GCSE Maths in 4th grade/C or higher. We are also considering equivalent qualifications in English and Mathematics at Level 2 instead of GCSEs. The LLB Hons Law programme is a three-year qualifying law degree – successful completion of the degree enables graduates to undertake the continuing education required to qualify as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. The Innocence Project London is also operated from the School of Law. Currently one of ten international projects accepted as members of the US-based Innocence Network, and the only UK member, the project allows our students to apply for selection to work on miscarriage of justice in the real world. This important work may result in appeals to the Criminal Review Board. – The LLB is designed for the arrival of the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) of the Solicitors Regulation Authority in 2021. LLB Hons law students may also apply to be selected to perform pro bono work under various programmes offered by the school. These include our Legal Advisory Centre, which won the LawWorks & AttorneyGeneral Student Pro Bono Award in 2015 for its « significant impact on the community. » The Centre allows selected students to work closely with volunteer lawyers and the Centre`s senior counsel to advise the public.
