Fort Lewis College General Education Requirements

We believe that an education in the humanities develops the mental habits necessary for global citizenship and lifelong learning. Our student-centered liberal arts program fosters critical inquiry, aesthetic appreciation, quantitative thinking, effective communication, and understanding of diverse historical and cultural perspectives. The liberal arts program provides an interdisciplinary foundation for learning and enables students to succeed in their professional, civic, and personal lives. Students pursuing a first or second bachelor`s degree at Fort Lewis College must meet all general academic and academic achievement requirements listed in this section, as well as the specific requirements of each component of the degree. Exceptions to the program of study requirements may be made through the Exceptions to Degree Requirements process. Applicants must apply for the degree. More information is available on the Office of the Registrar`s website. Those who are admitted to the graduation will be able to attend the opening ceremonies of this semester. Minors, although not mandatory, are offered. The requirements for each minor are described in the Minors section of this catalogue. A maximum of two minors can be assigned.

Students must have obtained at least 12 credits, separate from a major or minor for the award of a minor. If a student is seeking to obtain a minor as part of their bachelor`s studies, the program requirements must be met prior to graduation. There are restrictions on which minors can be taken in combination with some adults. These restrictions are listed in the list of requirements for each minor. The terms of this catalogue do not constitute an express or implied contract between applicants, students or faculty members and Fort Lewis College. This catalogue is a general information publication and does not contain all student regulations. All program of study requirements for the liberal arts core must be met unless the applicant holds a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. All curriculum requirements for a major must be met.

Students who have already completed a minor while attending an institution (including Fort Lewis College) may choose this field of study for a major. Students may pursue a double or double degree, subject to the conditions described earlier in this section. LAC`s concentrations are designed to help students bridge disciplines and provide students with an even more meaningful overall educational experience. The thematic link of LAC`s courses helps students identify correlations between course requirements in different disciplines. In addition, combining courses in a concentration program helps students see how the skills they learn in these courses are transferable to their professional and personal lives after college. The concentrations students complete are listed on their degrees, so they provide additional evidence that students can speak up when applying for jobs, internships, and graduate studies. All curriculum requirements for the core and liberal arts major must be met. Many students choose to use free electives to meet the requirements of a minor`s or teacher`s license. A dual degree is defined as meeting the requirements of two different majors simultaneously, resulting in the award of two bachelor`s degrees (i.e.

a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science). There are no special conditions for dual study students. The course catalogue details the requirements for the degree and certificate programs offered at Fort Lewis College. For students 23 years of age or older, or who have been out of high school for five years, Accuplacer scores may be required to determine placement in math and comp. Accuplacer is a university placement exam that determines literacy and math skills. The test is available at our testing center and can also be offered at your local community college. Learn more about Accuplacer at FLC. Students must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 and a minimum grade point average of 2.00 for courses accepted to meet the requirements of major and minor degree programs.

Each major must have at least 27 separate credit hours that are unique to that major.
